On 9 December 2025, Corinne Lamain successfully defended her PhD thesis at the International Institute of Social Studies, investigating the rise, expansion and stretching of climate security as both a topic of discourse and in practice.
Lamain argued that discussions of climate security need to be seen as extensions of the debates on climate politics, climate securities and socio-ecological conflicts.
Noting that state security and military interests are currently central to discussions on climate security, she highlighted six risks associated with this framing and presented an example in Nepal of an emerging avenue of climate security.
