Biography
Rui Wang is a PhD researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague) of Erasmus University Rotterdam. She has worked at a provincial television station in China as a director for reality TV shows and the deputy director of brand marketing center. She has managed the production of many large-scale shows and reality TV programs and executed communications projects for internationally renowned brands, including Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola etc., in cross-cultural markets. She has extensive experience in media communications and event planning.
Her research interests include advertising and brand communication, cross-cultural crisis communication, the digital economy, and political economy. Drawing on years of professional experience, she explores the dual impact of digital platforms on Chinese women and the development of Chinese feminism from a feminist perspective. Rui aims to critically examine the new intertwined relationship between gender, capital, and power in the digital economy era, thereby contributing Chinese perspectives to feminist theory and practice in the Global South context.
