By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify why and when communicating their research beyond academia can be useful for impact, funding, and career development
  • Distinguish key differences between academic communication and communication with non-expert audiences
  • Recognize common risks and pitfalls in science communication (e.g., oversimplification, hype, misinterpretation)
  • Apply practical techniques to make their research clear, accurate, and engaging for lay audiences
  • Select suitable formats and channels (e.g., popular science articles, blogs, social media) for their communication goals
  • Deliver a concise, audience-appropriate pitch of their own research and get feedback from other participants
  • Use AI tools to support different forms of science communication (e.g., text, speech)
