The Humanitarian Studies Centre (HSC) is organizing this special event looking at the work carried out by Dr Yvonne Su on local and grassroots responses to humanitarian practice around (forced) migration.
Her work focuses on the case of Casa Miga, Brazil’s only LGBT refugee centre.
Casa Miga is working to reimagine humanitarian practice for some of the most marginalized groups affected by the Venezuelan refugee crisis, contributing to the field through innovation, inclusivity and tailored responses that reflect the lived experience of LGBT refugees.
Following the presentation there will be a moderated panel discussion around grassroots responses and mechanisms to protecting and supporting marginalized groups, the relationship between the local, national and international in the humanitarian and migration fields, and plenty more besides. There will of course also be time for a Q&A session with the speakers.
Speakers
- Yvonne Su (York University)
- Nanneke Winters (ISS)
- Elissaios Papyrakis (ISS)
The session will be moderated by HSC Senior Researcher Kaira Canete.
