In February 2019, the sparring between India & Pakistan threatened to spiral out of control into a full-fledged war as both countries threatened each other with missiles attack. The dispute erupted when more than 40 Indian troops were killed in a terrorist attack in the Indian held Kashmir. The Indian government blamed Pakistan-based Jihadi groups for the attack and vowed to avenge the death of its troops.

The simmering dispute erupted into conflict late in February when Indian and Pakistani warplanes engaged in a dogfight over Kashmir on February 27, a day after a raid by Indian jet fighters on what it said was a militant camp in Pakistan.

Mainstream and social media in both countries added fueled to the fire by jingoism, while  pro-peace voices were silenced in both countries by terming them traitors & unpatriotic.

Gul Bukhari is a prominent journalist from Pakistan. She writes both for the Pakistani and Indian newspapers and is currently visiting Europe for a conference. Some of her work can be seen at nation.com.pk and theprint.in
