The Municipality of The Hague has awarded Associate Professor Elissaios Papyrakis and research partners a grant to research the challenges faced by local LGBTQ+ youth and refugees.

The project is in collaboration with Professor Naomi van Stapele of The Hague University of Applied Sciences and two local LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, Rainbow Den Haag and COC Haaglanden. Within the project's scope, the researchers will document the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ youth and refugee highlighted through a documentary film. To achieve a citizen science-based approach, LGBTQ+ youth and refugees will be recruited as research assistants. In the longer term, school visits will be conducted to present findings, raise awareness and sensitize young students to the vulnerabilities the two communities face. The project will take place over one year, concluding in 2024.
