In an article published on various online news fees, ISS Associate Professor Andrew Fischer points out the problems being faced by former Tibetan nomads as they are relocated to live in towns and cities by Chinese authorities.
In an interview with AFP news agency, he argues that relocation '...gives rise to a variety of related problems like unemployment, social problems, alcoholism, et cetera, which are typical hallmarks of rapid social dislocation'.
The article cites Chinese authorities as believing that relocation is a good option for Tibetal nomads as it leads to higher living standards and better protection of the environment.
