On 18 September 2020, Tanmoy Majilla graduated from the International Institute of Social Studies with his thesis 'Essays in Empirical Development Economics'.
In his thesis, Tanmoy examined issues that are pertinent to son preference and labour market entry of young women in South Asia. In four chapters he considers parental allocation of educational resources in India and Pakistan, the motherhood penalty in urban India and the link between this and community gender norms, the extent to which access to childcare support mitigates the motherhood penalty.
