Using drones to impact environmental justice

Environment and Climate Change research video - April 2020

Researchers at the International Institute of Social Studies are closely involved in All Eyes on the Amazon, a project led by Hivos and Greenpeace which aims to impact on issues of environmental justice.

In this short video, Dr Lorenzo Pellegrini explains the project and it involves the use of drones and apps to monitor the environmental impact of extractive industries.

  • How can drones be used to locate and measure oil spills or gas flaring?
  • How can the impacts be reduced?
  • How can the evidence gathered be used to campaign against the impacts?

Falling under the Environment and Climate Change research theme, this film describes how the information gathered can be used to create packages of photos, statistics and other evidence to promote environmental justice in the Amazon.
