Lefor finds that participating in educational and skills development opportunities such as vocational and life skills training helps expand students' capabilities. Yet they find it difficult to convert these new-found skills into successful university education or dignified employment.

The most significant barrier, Lefor argues, is students' legal precarity. Their lack of documentation means they are de facto stateless and have limited access to safety, mobility and the formal education and employment sector.

In this seminar, Lefor will provide some early evidence-based recommendations to address the structural inequities that shape the well-being and aspirations of displaced Burmese youth living in Thailand.
