Decoloniality and Degrowth (D&D) Specialization

This specialization in Decoloniality and Degrowth (D&D) offers students a unique learning environment to actively engage in emerging dialogues surrounding decoloniality and degrowth as critical alternatives to mainstream development paradigms. By undertaking this specialization, students will delve into dynamic debates surrounding alternative development frameworks proposed by both decoloniality and degrowth, all while honing their research skills to envision futures beyond coloniality and growth-centric ideologies.

Students will delve into the intersections and productive tensions inherent in decoloniality and degrowth within both research and practical applications within the development sphere. Special emphasis will be placed on discussions emanating from and within the Global South, as well as on marginalized, racialized, and indigenous communities in the Global North.

Upon completion, students will possess the ability to critically reevaluate existing knowledge generation methodologies vis-Ă -vis the enduring colonial structures of global power. They will also be equipped to recognize and address the harmful consequences of growth-centered ideologies within the field of development studies, as well as in its pedagogical and institutional frameworks.
