Erna van der Westhuizen

Erna van der Westhuizen will talk about how she operationalized the Parent Network and Let’s Talk Parents (LTP) tool at Shonaquip Social Enterprise, for eliminating biases & discrimination against persons with disabilities and their families using digital technology.

This initiative has qualified as a finalist in the World Justice Challenge 2022.

This hybrid event is organized by the International Centre for Frugal Innovation based at the International Institute of Social Studies.

About Shonaquip

Shonaquip is a South African based organization working towards removing barriers to access for people with mobility disabilities. This also includes the design and manufacture of affordable assistive paediatric devices for use in resource constrained settings.

About the speaker

Erna is the impact and learning strategic oversight lead and co-CEO of Shonaquip. She is also a senior Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity, in South Africa and PhD Researcher at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University where she is exploring the role of the digital tool in building the confidence of parents of children with disabilities to engage in policy implementation and monitoring.
