He will discuss his study that evaluates the impact of protected areas (PAs) on deforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Analyzing 1 km grids from 1985–2022 with the MapBiomas Amazonia dataset, he finds that PAs significantly increase forest cover. He finds that environmental variables such as rainfall and temperature moderate these impacts. Furthermore, he alos observed negative effects in certain periods, potentially due to ecological or policy factors.

His results suggest that while PAs are effective, their impact varies across place and time, necessitating targeted conservation strategies.
