Based on President Rajapaksa's past record, Shyamika Jayasundara-Smits argues that in 2020, Sri Lanka is likely to move towards more authoritarian security politics with governance controlled by experts on violence, leaving very little room for democratic dissident voices.
Economically the country seems likely to reinvigorate its dream of becoming the 'new Singapore', whilst internationally looking away from the West and looking more to the East.
