Butterfly Bar - ISS

The PhD Alumni Association of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is pleased invite all ISS PhD alumni to its summer drinks get-together, brought to you from the Butterfly Bar.

After the success of the Brown Bag seminar of 26 May, organized by Sarah Gammage, it is now time for some lighter entertainment and Summer Drinks in the Butterfly Bar. This time we shall also invite the current PhD researchers to join us for a toast.

Programme

The programme is not yet fully set, but of course we will start again with a (short) introduction round, after which Dr Bimala Ray, who graduated in September 2008, will tell us about her time at ISS, her work as Member of Parliament of Nepal and the perspectives for Nepal and herself.

We would also like to experiment with breakout rooms, this time only to socialize. Our rector, Professor Inge Hutter, has recently been appointed by EUR as academic lead to implement the five Erasmian Values in the university’s strategy. These Erasmian Values are: Engaged with Society, World Citizenship, Connecting, Entrepreneurial, Open Mindedness, values that have always been strongly embedded in ISS’ expertise. Inge will share her thoughts with us on her new assignment.

Dr Sarah Gammage will say a few words on the first Brown Bag seminar she organized, the IPAA Task Force shall give an update on its activities and Professor Arjun Bedi will give us the latest on the ISS and its research.

Do you have ideas for future programming?

Please give us your suggestions for future programming or let us know if you would like to say something about yourself, your time at ISS, your current employment, research or any other topic you would like to address in the bar.

Your suggestions are very welcome and can be sent to dirks@iss.nl or phdalumni@iss.nl.
