Sign up now for the workshop on 'How to communicate science to a lay audience' on Tuesday January 16th, 13:30-15:30, held in the ISS Library classroom!
Dissemination of research to a lay audience is one of the most challenging features of academia. Unfortunately, (under)graduate and PhD students typically receive little to no formal training in this skill. Just like other skills, improving communication skills requires time, practice, and effort.
This interactive workshop (duration: 2 hours) is given by Çisem Gürel, PhD. of the University Library and gives an opportunity for practicing and learning more about different strategies in communication with a general public.
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• explain why communicating science to a public can be worthwhile,
• argue in what ways science communication is different than academic communication,
• explain what risks are associated with science communication,
• deliver a pitch of your research using 7 tips offered in the workshop,
• judge what different forms of communication with public (such as popular scientific articles, blog posts) is suitable to you.
