Anti-deglobalization - Only a preoccupation of the Global North?

A remarkable ‘big switch’  has emerged from the turn of the millennium in terms of attitudes towards and discourses over globalization. But while the world is currently witnessing a new backlash against economic globalization, considerable support for globalization within some parts of the Global South should not be overlooked.

In the second post in its 'Deglobalization 2.0' series, Rory Horner, Seth Schindler, Daniel Haberly and Yuko Aoyama argue in Bliss (ISS blog) the current backlash against globalization in parts of the Global North overlooks the support it still has in other parts of the world. In East and Southeast Asia, for example, over 70% of respondents to a YouGov 2016 survey  believed globalization has been a force for good. In Vietnam, the approval rate was as high as 91%.

The authors consider the reasons behind this discrepancy and the possible future of deglobalization.
